Ashford Borough Museum

The Churchyard, Ashford

Ashford Castle is housed in a 17th century Grade II listed building. The museum is located in the Church Yard, at the Heart of Ashford's Town Centre, and features exhibits associated with Ashford's history. Celebrate Ashford's railway heritage and visit our new railway room.  Hornby model train and fascinating memorabilia plus annual featured exhibitions on the local area.

Special openings for groups can be arranged by prior appointment.

The museum's collection comprises artefacts relating to the Borough of Ashford and its people and includes collections on:

Artefacts from the Neolithic, Romano- Briton and Anglo-Saxon periods.
The First World War with a feature on ‘Life in the Trenches‘.
World War Two including information on the Prisoner of War camps.
An excellent display on the lost businesses of Ashford showing items and photos of those firms.
Medical instruments from the old Ashford and cottage hospitals.
Railway memorabilia
Ashford Market, one of the oldest in the country,
The military history of the town.
Smuggling and the lives and demise of the ‘Aldington Gang’.
A pre-historic collection starting with a 200 million year old dinosaur bone found in 2001 at Washford farm.
